2013 CFO Awards Winners Announced

CFO of the Year - sponsored by Ernst & Young.
Andrew McKenzie, Auckland Council
CFO  Andrew McKenzie was recognised as an astute CFO who thinks strategically and executes successfully.
 
“The The scale and complexity of Andrew’s task in managing the financial integration of eight separate councils into a single Auckland Council is without parallel in New Zealand,” said the judges.
 
Andrew’s responsibilities in leading the planning process for 2011/12, during a period of substantial change, including facilitation of over $81 million in operating efficiency savings, particularly impressed the judges. They noted that this project was awarded the 2012 NZ CFO Awards Financial Innovation Project of the Year.

Finance Team of the Year - sponsored by New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

ANZ Bank New Zealand Ltd
Integrating the core banking systems of the ANZ and National Bank while supporting group process simplification, investment analysis and capital efficiency has resulted in the ANZ Bank New Zealand Ltd winning Finance Team of the Year.
 
The judges noted that the scale of the conversion was enormous; 2.6 million customer records, 80 million transactions and $46 billion of funds migrated over one weekend and they felt the ANZ Finance Team was an excellent example of a group of finance professionals who were certainly not just a back-office function.


Young Financial Manager of the Year - sponsored by Hays
Ben Doshi, Kingfish Limited, Barramundi Limited and Marlin Global Limited
Young Financial Manager of the Year, Ben Doshi, received high praise from the judges for being appointed as CFO of a publicly listed company at the age of 27.
 
“Ben’s leadership skills are well recognised within Fisher Funds and we could see this demonstrated through his active involvement as a member of the senior management team of Kingfish, Barramundi and Marlin Global,” said the judges.
 
Overall, the judges felt that Ben displayed outstanding attributes as a young finance manager who has achieved much, progressed very quickly and shows great potential.


Financial Innovation Project of the Year - sponsored by Technology One.
IAG New Zealand
IAG has received high praise from he judges for their management and innovation in a complex, highly regulatory environment with the acquisition of AMI and are this year’s winner of the Finance Innovation Project award.
 
The judges were impressed by the project management of the integration process, once the acquisition had been completed, including having to assume responsibility for ensuring that a new AMI insurance system would meet IAG’s standards.


Lifetime Contribution to Finance & Business -

Sir John Anderson was awarded the CFO Lifetiem Achievement Award earlier this month, recognising his significantly contribution to the finance sector during the course of his career.

The Awards celebrate and recognise individuals and teams who have made a difference to the financial community.

The Award categories for 2013 are as follows:

  • CFO of the Year - sponsored by Ernst & Young. The CFO of the Year category is open to individuals in a chief financial cfficer position. The entrant must be a New Zealand resident and hold full-time employment at the time then entries close.
  • Young Financial Manager of the Year - sponsored by Hays The Young Financial Manager of the Year category is open to individuals in a financial manager position. The entrant must be a New Zealand resident and hold full-time employment at the time the entries close.
  • The Lifetime Contribution to Finance & Business Award is given to a high profile business person (including, but not necessarily a current or former CFO) from a public or private company whose contribution has significantly and uniquely impacted the greater New Zealand or global business community in a financial sense over the course of his or her career. He or she may live in New Zealand or abroad, but must be a New Zealand citizen.
